Did you know you should take a break every 8 weeks?

Many supplements for dogs are based on herbs. Many people think you can give this to dogs without any limits, but is this really the case? Are herbs so safe that you can keep giving them without stopping? We are happy to explain it to you in this blog!

Herbs can have a reverse effect!

It is often thought that herbs are harmless and that you can always give them to your dog to support a minor ailment. Unfortunately, that's not how herbs work! Herbs are very powerful and have many good properties. But there are herbs that can eventually have a reverse effect and worsen the ailment. Echinacea is one such herb, it is very good for your immune system, but if you take it for too long, your immune system will actually weaken.

Therefore, make sure not to take herbs for too long and alternate in order to prevent a reverse reaction.

Effectiveness of herbs can decrease

The longer you give an herb, the less the body will respond to it. The effectiveness of herbs slowly decreases over time. For some herbs, this will take a long time and the effectiveness will remain active for a long time, but there are also herbs where this happens more quickly. This is also partially dependent on the animal. If you give your dog herbs, make sure not to do this for a long period of time with the same product, but alternate and/or take regular breaks.

Do not give herbs for more than 8 weeks in a row!

To prevent a reverse effect or a decrease in effectiveness of herbs, it is advisable not to give herbs for more than 8 weeks in a row. If you give your dog a supplement based on herbs, try to take a break for 1 week after 8 weeks. This way, you prevent herbs from having a reverse effect and ensure that the effectiveness of herbs remains optimal. And it's totally okay if it's 9 weeks once or if you take a break after 6 weeks. If your dog responds very well to an herbal supplement and you're afraid to stop, please contact us to discuss if there are any options to continue giving the product.
