Herbs can have a reverse effect!

It is often thought that herbs are harmless and that you can always give them to your dog to support a minor ailment. Unfortunately, that's not how herbs work! Herbs are very powerful and have many good properties. But there are herbs that can eventually have a reverse effect and worsen the ailment. Echinacea is one such herb, it is very good for your immune system, but if you take it for too long, your immune system will actually weaken.

Therefore, make sure not to take herbs for too long and alternate in order to prevent a reverse reaction.

Effectiveness of herbs can decrease

The longer you give an herb, the less the body will respond to it. The effectiveness of herbs slowly decreases over time. For some herbs, this will take a long time and the effectiveness will remain active for a long time, but there are also herbs where this happens more quickly. This is also partially dependent on the animal. If you give your dog herbs, make sure not to do this for a long period of time with the same product, but alternate and/or take regular breaks.

Do not give herbs for more than 8 weeks in a row!

To prevent a reverse effect or a decrease in effectiveness of herbs, it is advisable not to give herbs for more than 8 weeks in a row. If you give your dog a supplement based on herbs, try to take a break for 1 week after 8 weeks. This way, you prevent herbs from having a reverse effect and ensure that the effectiveness of herbs remains optimal. And it's totally okay if it's 9 weeks once or if you take a break after 6 weeks. If your dog responds very well to an herbal supplement and you're afraid to stop, please contact us to discuss if there are any options to continue giving the product.

Can you combine different dog supplements together?

Sometimes problems in dogs are complex or there are different health issues at play. Especially older dogs often benefit from multiple dog supplements to support their bodies. But can you combine different products?. Combining supplements is usually possible Generally, it is not a problem to combine different dog supplements. Mixing different brands is usually not a problem either. Try to avoid duplicate ingredients as much as possible to avoid giving too much of certain substances. Also, be selective in what you choose, as you preferably don't want too much sugars (e.g. dextrose, sorbitol) or other fillers in the supplements, as these fillers have more of a negative effect than a positive one. Try to give a...

Humans and mammals have a system of tiny transmitters and receivers in their bodies, which ensures that signals from cells go to the brain and vice versa. This way, the brain knows if something is wrong somewhere and can send helper substances or other cells to the right location to address a disturbance, intruder, or problem. This system is called, with a difficult word, the 'endocannabinoid system'. And no, this is not science fiction!

Scientists only discovered in the early 1990s that humans and mammals have an endocannabinoid system at all. This system restores balance in cells in cases of pain, inflammation, and disruptions to the immune system. Your dog also has an endocannabinoid system. It is important for many bodily processes. For example, in oxygen transport, the proper functioning of the nervous system, bone formation, the gastrointestinal s...

Five common disorders in dogs

Older dogs sometimes experience conditions like arthritis or cataracts. In this article, we discuss five disorders that every dog lover should be aware of.. Arthritis Arthritis in dogs is similar to what humans experience. Joints become swollen and inflamed, and movement becomes painful. Arthritis usually worsens with age. Inflammation can occur in all joints, but is most commonly seen in the knees, shoulders, and toes. There is no cure for arthritis, but omega-3 fatty acids can help reduce swelling and provide some natural relief. These healthy fats are found in sources like salmon oil.
