Which herbs are suitable for the joints of horses?

Is your horse a bit stiff when starting out, or is he stiff after training? The cause for this may lie in the joints. For example, when your horse is a bit older and has developed some arthritis. Or because you have trained heavily and uric acid crystals have accumulated in the joints. Herbs can help to make your horse more supple and relieve joint pain.

As a horse ages, changes in the cartilage can occur. This falls under the umbrella of arthritis. Also, wear and tear of the joints, a lower production of joint fluid (lubricant), or local inflammation in the joints can cause pain and reduced mobility.

Herbs for arthritis and joint inflammation

There are several herbs that can be used for conditions such as arthritis and arthritis. A well-known one is devil's claw, for example. This herb should not be used in pregnant horses and horses in competition. Cannabinoids from cloves are also a good option. These are natural substances with a strong anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving effect. They restore balance in the body and ensure that your horse can move smoothly again. With cannabinoids, you should stop a few days before a competition. In addition to cannabinoids, it may be wise to give the mineral silicon. This ensures - among other things - healthier cartilage and a higher production of joint fluid.

Removing Uric Acid

What not everyone knows is that small crystals can accumulate in the joints through training. This is a temporary solution of the body to 'park' waste products while training. The crystals consist of uric acid that has formed during work. Because the crystals have sharp points, they can cause pain if they remain in the joints for too long. Stress can also cause the crystals to accumulate. If you train vigorously regularly, or if your horse is stiff, it is wise to help him release these crystals. This process naturally takes place very slowly. A herbal extract of turmeric, boswellia, horsetail, black currant, field horsetail, and bamboo ensures that the small crystals are dissolved. The horse can then move better again. You can give such a herbal extract in the form of a course.
