Tip 1 – Know what’s going on

A skin issue, hair loss, or a dull coat can have many causes—ranging from allergies and parasites to a mineral deficiency or fungal infection. If you’re unsure, it’s best to consult your veterinarian.

Tip 2 – Provide the right building blocks

To keep your dog’s skin and coat healthy, they need a nutritious diet containing sufficient vitamins and minerals that support the construction and maintenance of the skin. Silicon and vitamin D are particularly important, as well as certain trace minerals.

Tip 3 – Support the immune system

Many skin problems in dogs stem from allergies. An allergy is essentially an overreaction of the immune system to things like cleaning products or pollen. You can support an allergic dog by keeping their immune system strong. Signaling compounds such as cannabinoids and the herb black cumin are especially helpful in supporting allergic responses.

Tip 4 – Get plenty of fresh air and exercise

A healthy coat comes from within. So in addition to good nutrition, make sure your dog gets enough exercise, variety, and fresh air. Playing in the sun also positively influences the production of vitamin D.

Tip 5 – Keep the skin’s microbiome healthy

Your dog’s skin and coat are full of microorganisms—not lice or fleas, but beneficial microbes that help maintain the skin’s protective barrier. This entire ecosystem of bacteria, fungi, and yeasts is called the “microbiome.” When the skin is damaged or wounded, the balance of this microbiome can be disrupted. In such cases, a spray containing Effective Microorganisms can help replenish the beneficial microbes and restore balance to the skin.

Tip 6 – Not just vitamins and minerals!

In addition to silicon, trace minerals, and vitamin D, your dog also needs enough healthy fats in their diet for a shiny coat and healthy skin. In particular, omega-3 fatty acids—EPA and DHA—must be supplemented, as dogs can’t produce them on their own. Salmon oil is a beneficial and tasty supplement that provides EPA, DHA, as well as omega-6 and omega-9 fatty acids. It helps reduce dryness and redness of the skin and is also useful in managing allergies and eczema.

Silicon

Skin problems are common in dogs. The mineral silicon is important for the structure and health of the skin, coat, and nails.
