Is a detox suitable for all dogs?
A detox can be beneficial for dogs but is not suitable for all dogs. Generally, a detox is recommended for adult, healthy dogs. For these animals, a detox, which is applied up to twice a year, can help remove accumulated waste products from the body.

For older dogs, puppies, or dogs with health problems, a detox is usually not advisable. A detox can require a lot of energy and may actually worsen issues for dogs with a high load of waste products in their bodies.
Not for Old Age, Illness, or Surgery
Since a detox releases a lot of waste products, it can pose some risks for dogs with poorer health, recently dewormed dogs, older dogs, or young dogs. You should also not give a detox to dogs who have recently undergone surgery.
Important Points for a Detox
A detox can have temporary negative effects, including:
- Temporarily reduced absorption of nutrients, vitamins, and minerals;
- Energy loss and fatigue, especially if there are already health issues;
- Nausea and vomiting if a large amount of waste products is released all at once;
- Existing conditions may worsen.
Always consult with your veterinarian if in doubt, or call us for advice if you are unsure whether a detox is appropriate for your dog.
