Vitamin E for horses

Vitamin E is one of the most well-known vitamins that is commonly supplemented to horses. Vitamin E is not produced by the body itself, but horses mainly get it through fresh grass. Since horses do not have access to fresh grass all year round and because hay contains less vitamin E as it ages, horses tend to have a deficiency in vitamin E. Vitamin E is known to support muscles, the immune system, and the nervous system. When a horse is trained, free radicals are released in the muscles, such as lactic acid. Vitamin E is one of the antioxidants that protects the muscles against these free radicals and helps eliminate them. Additionally, vitamin E is very important for horses with muscle diseases such as PSSM.
