Silicon with horses

Silicon is one of the most common minerals in the world. However, not all forms of silicon are absorbable. For example, white sand is rich in silicon but not absorbable. Silicon is only well absorbable for the horse in a liquid form. It is the building material for connective tissue (bones, cartilage, hooves, and coat). It also stimulates the production of endogenous glucosamine (GAGs). In addition, many horses stop licking / eating sand when supplemented with the mineral silicon.
