Hawthorn for Horses

Hawthorn is a shrub with sharp thorns and red (non-toxic) fruits. Hawthorn has been used for centuries as a medicinal plant. In the Middle Ages, it was used for insomnia, gout, and diarrhea. But the thorns were also used as needles for old-fashioned phonographs.

Hawthorn is rich in flavonoids, phenolic acids, essential oils, and vitamin C.

Hawthorn good for heart and blood vessels

Hawthorn has a positive effect on heart function, stabilizing the heartbeat and calming the heart. Additionally, hawthorn has a positive effect on blood vessels. It widens the coronary arteries, allowing for better circulation of the heart muscle. It also works as an antioxidant to protect the blood vessel walls against free radicals.

Hawthorn also has a positive effect on the nervous system, calming without causing tolerance to build up.

As with all herbs/plants, we recommend a break period of at least 1 week every 6-8 weeks.
