Boswellia in horses
By making incisions in the bark of the frankincense tree, the sap of this tree can be collected. Boswellia is made from this resin. Boswellia was previously used to treat inflammations such as arthritis.
Supplements for joint pain in horses often contain boswellia because of its anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving properties.

Boswellia as an anti-inflammatory
Not only in cases of arthritis, but also allergic reactions (sweet itch), skin issues, and digestive problems involve inflammations. Boswellia inhibits the enzymes that play a major role in the production of leukotrienes. Leukotrienes are responsible for certain inflammatory processes in the horse's body, and an excess of these enzymes leads to painful joints, allergies, and other inflammations in the body.
Therefore, Boswellia is a very safe ingredient to give to horses with chronic inflammations and can be compared to the effect of corticosteroids (but plant-based).
Other functions of Boswellia
Boswellia mainly functions as an anti-inflammatory, but by doing so, it supports the entire immune system. It also has a pain-relieving effect, or rather, it increases the pain threshold.
