*Note! A detox is not always safe to give.

Removal of toxins

The main function of a detox is to remove toxins. Horses (and also humans) accumulate toxins in the body. These are substances that enter the body through food, illness, obesity, allergies, exercise, and so on. It is inevitable that we get toxins in our bodies, and fortunately, we have a liver and kidneys for that. They help filter and eliminate toxins. However, this is often not enough, and toxins are still stored in the body. A detox helps release and eliminate these toxins. A good detox is short but powerful, not only removing toxins but also supporting the liver and kidneys.

Improved nutrient absorption

You can imagine that if your body is full of toxins, there is no room to absorb the good nutrients. Everything is sort of clogged up and continues to accumulate, preventing the right nutrients (and supplements) from reaching the right place to do their job. By removing toxins, a detox creates space in the horse's body. This allows nutrients from roughage, balancers, and supplements to be better absorbed, and the horse can fully utilize them.

So, a detox provides space to better absorb nutrients.

A detox improves resistance

A body filled with toxins is more vulnerable and has less energy and building materials to fight off diseases and infections. Often, you see the horse going from one ailment to another and not breaking out of that negative cycle. Therefore, a detox is very beneficial to use preventively. By removing toxins from the body and supporting the liver and kidneys, the horse's resistance will improve, making the horse more resilient to external influences.

2 detoxes per year

We recommend doing a detox for your horse 2 times a year, in the spring and autumn. This way, you keep your horse's body clean and allow nutrients and other supplements to be well absorbed. Choose a detox that is short in duration, do not do a detox for weeks because it is quite intense for a horse. Also, adjust the workload during a detox regimen, as toxins enter the bloodstream, causing the horse to have slightly less energy. Only do a detox when your horse is in good health and has good resistance. So, not during or shortly after an illness!
