Detox + nettle: ideal combination for keeping the horse's body clean

Each horse accumulates waste products in its body. Not only through nutrition, but also through the environment and as the body renews its cells. These waste products will accumulate in the body, causing it to become "full" over time. This can lead to ailments (itching, mud fever, decreased resistance, etc.) and the proper nutrients may be less well absorbed. So it is important to clean up these waste products. But what do you choose? A detox or nettle? In our opinion: choose both!

Detox supports liver and kidneys

We recommend doing a detox for your horse twice a year, but only if it is responsible! In wild horses, detox also occurs, but of course not through a supplement. Horses seek out herbs that aid in the removal of waste products. And at the end of winter, wild horses lose weight drastically due to food scarcity. Because waste products are stored in the fat tissue, they are released and the waste products are removed. So it is not strange to give our modern horse a detox as well. They are still receiving the waste products, possibly even more.

A detox supplement will support the horse in removing these waste products. It loosens the waste products and removes them. It also supports the liver and kidneys with the cleansing process. A good detox not only releases waste products, but also provides support and maintenance to the liver and kidneys. A detox course does not have to last for weeks, preferably not! A detox requires a lot of energy from the horse, so choose a course that only lasts a week. Good herbs for a detox are: turmeric, boldo, artichoke, and milk thistle.

Nettle is blood-purifying and a boost for the immune system

Nettle tincture is extremely potent, many times more powerful than dried/fresh nettle. A tincture contains more medicinal properties and is higher in concentration, making it very suitable for use as a "mild" detox. An additional benefit is that nettle is suitable and safe for all horses, even for horses with laminitis! Give a course of nettle tincture four times a year. It is blood-purifying, supports the intestinal flora, and is a real boost for the immune system.

By doing these courses regularly (every 3 months), a detox will also be less intense because the waste products have been purified from the blood in the meantime. And the better the immune system, the better the horse can handle a detox. Nettle and detox are therefore a dream couple when it comes to keeping your horse's internal system clean.

Example schedule:

It is not necessary to do a detox and nettle at the same time. It is actually nice to give them alternately, for example, follow the schedule below.

March Detox
April Nettle tincture

We humans often see nettle as a weed that causes itching if touched incorrectly. But horses see nettle as normal food. Some horses eat them fresh, but most horses prefer them dried and without the "sting". Nettles are extremely healthy for horses, rich in minerals, and have an alkaline effect. But most importantly, they purify the blood! And it is this blood-purifying property that makes nettle a nice herb for horses. Ideal for hor...
