It depends on the origin
As a supplement brand, you have the duty and responsibility to delve into the ingredients you sell and their origin. We at HELTIE dog take this responsibility seriously and will not bring supplements to market that we do not stand behind. We are also critical when it comes to our salmon oil. We want to know the story behind the supplier and how the salmon are farmed, including what kind of food they are given. It is important to know the origin.
Many negative reports about farmed salmon
Nowadays, with social media, the negative aspects are often highlighted, but when things are going well, you rarely hear about it. The farming of salmon is a topic where many abuses are reported. Yes, there are certainly companies where salmon are farmed under dire conditions, where many salmon die due to overcrowding and where a lot of medication is used. However, this does not apply to all farmers! There are farmers who take good care of their animals, who use medication consciously, and tailor the food to prevent diseases as much as possible. The salmon have good living conditions and are provided with the right nutrition, without overcrowding in too small basins.
We consciously choose farmed salmon!
The salmon oil we bring to market is from farmed Norwegian salmon. And this is a conscious choice. We do not want to impact the wild salmon population to obtain oil. Furthermore, wild salmon often live around the basins of farmed salmon and eat the same feed as the farmed fish. Therefore, many wild salmon are not as wild as one might think.
But we choose consciously! Our farmer ensures that the salmon can grow up in good conditions. Their main source of income is the salmon meat for human consumption. The farmer does not benefit from salmon being overcrowded and medicated, as this would affect the quality. The oil is then pressed from the remains, resulting in salmon oil. Our salmon oil is slightly pinkish due to the natural antioxidants in the salmon's feed (to promote overall fish health) which have a red color. That's why the color of the oil is more pink.
We know our supplier and therefore consciously choose this specific salmon oil.
