Over the food
Clove extract is a liquid product and can be easily added to the food. Whether you feed raw meat, kibble, or wet food, it can be applied to all of them. What is important is to always start with a low dosage. Due to the powerful smell and taste, many dogs need time to get used to clove. Start with a drop, for example, and gradually increase it over a few days. For regular maintenance, you only need to give clove extract once a day, but in acute situations, you can give it up to a maximum of 3 times a day. You can also make it more palatable by adding salmon oil to the food.
Directly in the mouth
Not all dogs will eat clove extract over their food due to the strong taste and smell, but these dogs often benefit from it. It is also possible to give clove extract directly into the mouth with a syringe or a dropper. The dosage for clove extract for dogs is relatively low, making it easy to administer. To mask the taste, it can be mixed with salmon oil. Administer it into the back of the mouth so it is swallowed immediately.
Choose what suits your dog!
Whether you add clove extract over the food or directly into the mouth, it does not make a difference in terms of effectiveness. Choose the application that suits your dog. Some dogs love it and can have it over their food. Some dogs need to get used to it, but can still have it over their food. If your dog resists the direct application, consider if clove is really suitable for your dog.
